TEHRAN Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi, in a message to his Mexican counterpart has expressed his satisfaction over the change in attitude and the independent stance adopted by the international community on the issue of civil liberties in Iran. The message was delivered to the Mexican deputy foreign minister by the Iranian Ambassador to Mexico Reza Tabatabaei Shafiei in a meeting on Thursday. Kharrazi, in his message, paid homage to the abstention vote of Mexico to the UN resolution on the status of human rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran. He expressed readiness for the development of the two countries' bilateral relations and international cooperation.

Deploring the influence of certain powers on the UN Human Rights Commission and their casting of votes in the previous years, Kharrazi expressed satisfaction over the change in attitude towards the issue of human rights in Iran. This change is an indication of the new and independent outlook of the international community towards Iran and the civil liberties in the Islamic Republic, he stressed.

Mexico used to follow a traditional diplomacy on voting against Iran regarding human rights issue. However, in the current year for the first time that country has exercised an abstention vote for Iran. Mexico's recent vote will have a great impact on the prospect of Tehran-Mexico relations in the future.
